What to Bring to Your Tax Appointment
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) provides IRS-trained and certified tax professionals to provide tax-preparation services to clients. VITA volunteers provide timely, quality, and free tax preparation for low to moderate-income individuals and families. Volunteers not only prepare tax returns but simultaneously provide education to clients about their returns and eligible tax credits.
People We Serve
- Robert Rock Senior Center, Breed Hall Annex Building, 610 Waterman Ave., East Providence, RI; hours of VITA program operation: Mondays and Tuesdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Benjamin Church Center, 1020 Hope Street, Bristol, RI; hours of VITA program operation: Thursdays and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Eligible persons may call the Office of Volunteer Services at 401-435-7876, Ext. 1137 between January 2nd and April 14th to schedule an appointment.
Key Features
VITA volunteers are local AmeriCorps Seniors program members and students from Roger Williams University Law School. All volunteers attend 30+ hours of IRS training, are certified by the IRS and assist clients with the following services:
- Free tax preparation
- Electronically filing tax returns to the IRS and Rhode Island Division of Taxation
- Educating clients about tax credits
