Victims of Crime Act Program
EBCAP now provides specific services to victims of crime through the Victim of Crime Act program, funded by the RI Department of Public Safety. Members of the community that have been victims of crime recently or in the past can receive support from an advocate that will meet with them, gather information about the crime and their needs, and provide assistance.
The goal of the program is to assist victims with their recovery, including advocating for justice so they have the best positive outcomes available. The ultimate benefit of the program is a decrease in the negative effects of the experience through improved coordination of victim services and prevention of re-victimization through education and support. Our advocates will further assist victims of crime by assessing their needs and strengths, resolving emergency needs (including linkages to available resources), providing court/police advocacy (including assistance applying to the victim compensation fund if eligible). All services are voluntary and are not dependent on any one type of crime. Examples include, but are not limited to: property theft, assaults, identity theft, harassment, abuse/neglect or any other type of violence.
