TEACHER ASSISTANT, HEAD START

East Bay Community Action Program is seeking a Teacher Assistant/Float to work in the Head Start.  This is a part time (25 hours / week), part year position based out of Riverside, RI. 

The Teacher Assistant/Float  will work in partnership with teaching teams, accepting guidance to provide daily classroom activities utilizing Head Start Program Performance Standards, Rhode Island Child Day Care Center Regulations for Licensing, Rhode Island Department of Education Early Learning Standards, East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) Head Start/Early Head Start Program Plan, EBCAP Personnel Policies,  Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS), The Creative Curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to ensure that all children have the opportunity for a high quality, nurturing, and safe learning experience. 

The Teacher Assistant/Float will have:

  • Ability to model and maintain the utmost level of confidentiality, respecting and preserving the dignity and privacy of children, families, staff, and program operations.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Possess good communication, reading, writing and analytical skills are required. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, parents, children, community representatives and volunteers in a professional and respectful manner.  Bi-lingual ability a plus.
  • Possess basic computer skills, i.e. webmail, access to internet, word documents, etc.
  • Must be certified in CPR and First Aid within 120 days of hire and maintain certification. 
  • Head Start experience preferred.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks, including but not limited to, bend and lift thirty (30) pounds, climbing stairs, and be physically able to meet the challenges of caring for young children aged birth to five (5) years old, i.e.  be able to sit on floor with children, bend, stretch and play.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Education requirements:

  • BA or AA in ECE or a related field* or
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) or
  • HS diploma/GED with 6 college credit hours in ECE coursework and one year supervised experience in ECE classroom.
  • Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis
