Psychiatric Nurse (EBCAP0153)

East Bay Center a division of East Bay Community Action Program is seeking a full time Psychiatric Nurse/Substance Abuse Outpatient Services for our East Providence locations. The Psychiatric Nurse will be responsible for variety of office-based medical, behavioral, and/or substance abuse treatment issues within the Substance Abuse Expansion Project. In addition, will assist Psychiatrist and/or Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (APRN/CNS) with conducting vital signs, supporting medication assisted therapy needs, conducing pre-authorizations for Buprenorphine (Suboxone), reviewing toxicology screens, treatment planning, medication refills, and coordination of care.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow up all phone calls regarding medication issues for assigned patients to prescribers, pharmacies, external medical providers, clients, and/or psychiatric hospitals. Document all calls in Center’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in compliance with Center’s clinical documentation timelines. Obtain prior authorizations on medications, particularly Suboxone, when necessary.
  • Obtain verbal/telephone medication orders according to Center’s established practices and State licensing regulations.
  • Collaborate with all Primary Care Physicians (PCPs) regarding their client(s) in treatment with EBCAP’s services. May also provide similar liaison services with adult clients as directed. Send correspondence and copies of psychiatric evaluations and medication order sheet updates to PCPs as needed. Coordinate discharges back to PCPs when treatment is ending with the Center.
  • Conduct and monitor vital signs, weight, height, and blood pressure of patients who are on psychotropic medications. Provide symptom education to patients around medical and psychiatric conditions, and medications. Consult with prescribers as necessary.
  • Screen and review all toxicology screens, enter data into Electronic Medical Record (EMR), and consult with prescriber and/or assigned clinician. Facilitate necessary referrals, lab work as needed.


  • RI Registered Nurse required, with two years of dual diagnosis experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
