Medical Assistant – Behavioral Health (EBCAP0155)

East Bay Center a division of East Bay Community Action Program is seeking a Medical Assistant for our busy Behavioral Health Services Program. The Medical Assistant position is full time (40 hours per week/52 weeks per year) position based out of our East Providence location. The ideal candidate will provide clinical and administrative support to staff working on a multi-disciplinary treatment team within Behavioral Health Services. The Medical Assistant will provide a variety of clinical and administrative support assistance to clients living with serious and persistent mental illness and/or substance abuse issues. Behavioral Health Services works collaboratively with the East Bay Community Action Health Services (EBCAHS) component to fulfill the organization’s goals and mission of providing integrated behavioral health and medical/dental/social services to clients of EBCAP.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial assessments of patients including taking medical, social and psychological history.
  • Take vital signs such as blood pressures, temperatures, pulse, weight and height as needed.
  • Conduct urine tox screens and breathalyzer tests on clients, and conduct supervised urine tox screens on court ordered clients as directed.
  • Assist psychiatric care providers with all paperwork aspects of patient care.
  • Warmly greet and intake all patients who arrive at the Health Center for their appointment.
  • Answer the phone in a warm and professional manner to schedule appointments or to take triage messages to give the triage nurse or any other Health Center staff member.
  • Appropriately document in electronic health record.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Assistant Certificate
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner
  • Excellent communication skills are required
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Basic computer skills
  • Maintain current certification in CPR at the healthcare provider level of the American Heart Association
  • Valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle, as some transportation may be required
