Adolescent Self Sufficiency Collaborative (ASSC)

Description: ASSC is a program for pregnant or parenting teens from the ages of 12-20 years old. It is a case management program to support education and good health outcomes for the teen and baby. Referrals are made to programs from East Providence and Barrington High Schools, Women and Infants Hospital, the Department of Children, Youth and Families and the Department of Human Service. Child care referrals, mental health referrals, and educational planning are part of the supportive services offered by ASSC. The goal of the program is to enhance and teach skills leading to self reliance for the client. Any young lady may be referred to ASSC; there are no income guidelines to be met. The program serves East Providence and Barrington residents.

Description: SOS is a community-based lifeline for youth and families. Though SOS is a new program of East Bay Community Action Program, it has been working with youth since 1981. Through it's exclusive work with adolescents staff has developed expertise and special insights into the strengths, struggles and concerns of both teens and their parents. The SOS counselors have a style and approach that addresses the needs of parents while helping young people to develop and maintain a healthy sense of autonomy and self-esteem. The SOS team of experienced counselors provides short-term counseling on an individual basis for youth and also provides family therapy and mediation. The approach is creative and flexible. Outreach Services are provided to clients and their families meeting them where they are: home, school or other convenient locations. The SOS office also offers a home-like welcoming environment for individual and family meetings.

Referrals come to SOS through schools, the police or courts, other social service agencies, parents, friends and the youth themselves.

All services are offered at no cost to the client. SOS focuses on youth ages 9-18 and their families, living in Newport County.
